Categorization of the article[edit]
Categories must be allocated to all articles in SaltWiki, comparable to keywords in journals. The system of categories is comparable to a thesaurus. The categories form a "category tree" with subcategories and main categories, such as:
- Sulfate
- Gypsum
- Epsomite
The categorization must occur systematically, so that search results for the same subject heading also show the same results.
Categories are used in SaltWiki for different purposes, for example:
- The classification of articles within a system of contents
- The basis for statistical analyses
- For marking pages for internal purposes
- The creation of compilations using DynamicPageList
Basic principles[edit]
- Articles should be allocated to one or more subcategories. For categorization, we always recommend using the current category tree.
- Images and other files are allocated to subcategories of the "file" category.
- Essentially, a page should not be classified simultaneously in one category and one of its main- or sub-categories. Exceptions to this are described in the description pages of the categories involved.
- If you are not confident in properly categorizing an article, we recommend just allocating the article to a suitable main category and leaving the rest to the editor.
- New categories must be agreed with the respective editors.
Order of categories[edit]
We recommend ordering categories from the particular to the general.
Category descriptions[edit]
Each category is given a description page. This page is used to describe the purpose of the category and, in particular, its delimitation criteria from other categories. As one category additionally "conceals" its parent categories, i.e., the rules and conventions to which the higher-level categories are subject cannot directly be seen, we recommend providing a short summary. It is important to find a meaningful category name. More information on the subject of categories can be found in Wikipedia[1]
Proposal for categorization[edit]
